Job Description
Minnesota State Community and Technical College is seeking a Dean for the School of Business and Information Technology. This position will be located on the Moorhead Campus and the anticipated start date is on or before July 1, 2024.

Position Summary:
The Dean for the School of Business and Information Technology is a front-line leader of the College, a member of the Deans Council, and a member of the College management team. Academic leaders are the facilitating link among faculty members, staff, students, and the President’s Cabinet and external constituencies. All activities and roles of the School Dean aim at furthering the best interests of M State students.
School Deans play four essential roles, serving as:
  • academic leaders of their faculty, schools, divisions, and programs;
  • representatives of their faculty, schools, divisions, and programs;
  • representatives of College leadership to their colleges;
  • managers of college resources.

 

The School Dean is responsible for promoting academic, administrative, and fiscal leadership in accordance with the Minnesota State Community and Technical College strategic and academic plans and for exercising holistic judgment when executing the duties of this position.
The position involves significant discretion and substantial involvement in the development, interpretation and implementation of Minnesota State and M State policies.
Responsibilities:
  • Schedule campus and college courses that meet the needs of students while managing faculty credit loads with fiscal responsibility.
  • Provide leadership and support for curriculum/program development college-wide.
  • Work collaboratively with the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, campus leadership team, campus and college faculty and staff to implement college initiatives and Minnesota State goals to support student and community success.
  • Interact with the community to foster understanding and to solicit support for overall college objectives.
  • Assure that all EO/AA policies, plans, and procedures are complied with and implemented.
  • Perform other functions, at the direction of the President and/or Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, as needed for the benefit of students and the college.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree required, Doctorate preferred
  • (from regionally accredited college/university)
  • Minimum of three years full-time teaching experience at the collegiate level.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Academic leadership in a community and/or technical college or university setting.
  • Demonstration of progressive leadership in a collegiate setting.
  • Working knowledge of higher education policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Experience in working with collective bargaining units.
  • Experience in fiscal planning and budgeting.
  • Experience in delivery of courses and programs through various teaching modalities (e.g. online, hybrid, etc.).
  • Experience in course and program development and review.
  • Experience in guided learning pathways, transfer pathways, or alternative
  • Experience in institutional and/or programmatic accreditation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with individuals of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and implementation of assessment activities at the course and program levels.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community and/or technical college.
