Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Financial Coordinator manages day-to-day procurement, accounting, and travel functions for the Lab, ensuring that resources are well-managed, organized, accurately reported and comply with federal and state regulations and University of Maryland policies and procedures. Responsibilities include serving as the Lab’s point of contact for purchasing, consulting contracts, and research participant payments coordination. Other responsibilities include performing reconciliations, initiating corrective general ledger transactions, coordinating inventory tasks, providing financial reports, and conducting data analysis. The Financial Coordinator will interface with ARLIS business operations personnel (Finance, Project Management, IT, HR, Security, Comms), as well as PIs and other researchers to conduct assigned duties. As a member of the Finance Team, the Financial Coordinator will assist with other finance-related activities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher, with a concentration in accounting, finance or business management or related field.

Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of experience in finance, accounting or auditing, preferably in the higher education or similar environment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Experience using electronic purchasing systems, such as KFS, Shell Shop or similar systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Teams.
  • Ability and willingness to take initiative, analyze problems, research and articulate solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, working on multiple projects with overlapping deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet expected deadlines and schedules.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Working knowledge of OMB’s Uniform Guidance and the FAR.
  • Experience with the University of Maryland’s financial and electronic purchasing systems (KFS, Shell Shop, etc.).
  • Knowledge of University of Maryland policies and procedures and how they relate to sponsored project accounting, travel, and purchasing.
  • Experience with the University of Maryland’s Travel Card and Purchasing Card Management systems.

Additional Information:

Conditions of Employment:
If selected, you must meet the requirements for access to classified information and will be subject to a government security clearance investigation that includes criminal and credit history checks, as well as verification of U.S. citizenship, birth, education, employment, and military history. Must also be able to obtain a TS/SCI U.S. security clearance.

Able to work on-site work from 3-5 days per week at the UMD/ARLIS building in College Park, MD.

Sedentary work performed in a normal office environment; exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Must be able to work on-site work from 3-5 days per week at the UMD/ARLIS building in College Park, MD.
