Yakima Valley College is accepting applications for a full-time Business Instructor who is active and accomplished in their discipline, has a record of successful teaching or related experience, and is committed to community college students and their success. This is a full-time, special faculty (non-tenure track) position, reporting to the Dean of Workforce Education with an anticipated start of September 2025. This position is based on the Yakima or Grandview campus as assigned, and is not approved for remote assignment.
YVC offers opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, encourages cooperative learning, and uses technologies in the classroom and for e-learning. All faculty are engaged in the assessment of college goals and purposes.
Essential Tasks
ESSENTIAL TASKS
- Dedication to students by creating an equitable environment conducive to meeting students’ learning needs.
- Teach a variety of courses ranging from introductory 100/200 to advanced 300/400 level business courses as assigned.
- Enthusiastic participation in department and divisional leadership opportunities e.g. department head, scheduling, and curriculum committee.
- Commitment to upgrade knowledge and skills to maintain relevant curriculum.
- Enthusiasm for using and learning new technologies to support student success.
- Provide student-centered academic advising within YVC’s Guided Pathways model.
- Serve on institutional and community committees, including advisory and K-12 partnership committees.
- Create and maintain business and industry relationships to provide externship opportunities for Business students.
- Be a collaborative partner in the Business Department and with other faculty and staff colleagues campus wide.
- Write and update curricula including course outlines and syllabi as required by the institution and based on educational research and industry trends.
- Participate in advisory board meetings and program recruitment.
- Maintain Professional Technical Educator certification which includes a professional development plan and may include maintenance of other certifications as required by program (per WAC 131-16-092 and 131-16-093).
- Commitment to an educational philosophy appropriate to a Hispanic Serving Institution, the community college system, and the needs of its diverse populations.
- Willingness to teach alternate hours, if needed.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business Administration, or in a business-related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- A minimum of one year of experience in teaching, or creating and facilitating corporate training, professional development activities, or workshops in an educational or business setting.
- Eligibility for professional technical certification in the State of Washington (per WAC 131-16-080 and 131-16-091).
- Experience teaching a variety of business administration topics such as marketing, project management, management, finance, accounting, human resources, and general business principles.
- Industry experience in quantitative business fields such as accounting, finance, statistics.
- Demonstrated ability to develop curriculum and deliver instruction in multiple modes of instruction (online, hybrid, and face-to-face).
- Proven culturally-responsive teaching.
ABILITY TO:
- Work in person on the Yakima or Grandview campus as assigned.
- Teach a flexible schedule including, days, evenings, weekends, online or hybrid.
- Work effectively with supervisors, colleagues, staff, and students as part of an education team.
- Collaborate with business and industry partners.
- Develop relationships within the regional business community.
- Create a collegial working environment.
- Meet deadlines within the institution and course structure, such as timely grading and student feedback, committee work, and other requests for information and participation.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills for effectively interacting with colleagues, staff, students, administrators, community partners, and individuals of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural setting.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Adult learning theory and techniques.
- Academic and career advising principles.
- Business administration content areas: marketing, project management, management, finance, accounting, human resources, and general business principles.

Employment Information:
