Job Title: Grants Accountant
Division: Academic Affairs
Reporting Structure: Director of Sponsored Programs & Research
 
 
JOB SUMMARY: The Grant Accountant coordinates the post-award administration of various federal, state, local and private grants. Interacts with investigators and administrative staff to ensure that grants are in compliance with regulatory, funding agency, and policy requirements. The position provides guidance and support to principal investigators in the budgeting and reporting of grant expenditures.
 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 
·         Maintains knowledge base of grant funding policies, regulations, and procedures.
·         Assists Principal Investigators and co-investigators of sponsored programs to administer the grant in accordance with University polices and requirements of the funding agency
·         Coordinates with the PI for the timely submission of external and internal reports
·         Monthly reporting of budget vs. actual results to department heads and Principal Investigators (PI)
·         Manages administration of grants, including budget changes occurring during the awarded granting period and calculation of indirect cost reimbursement.
·         Completes expenditure reports for federal, state, and private agencies.
·         Assists in the preparation of work papers as related to grants for the annual financial audit.
·         Reviews, approves and processes budget transfers for restricted program accounts.
·         Responsible for Time & Effort reporting/compliance.
·         Performs other duties as assigned
 
MINIMUM EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
 
·         Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business or related field and a minimum of three years of progressive accounting/budgeting experience.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
·         In-depth knowledge of accounting practices and procedures, and OMB circulars.
·         Must be an advanced user of Microsoft Excel.
·         Must have the ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
·         Must have a strong customer service orientation, the ability to use good judgment, and exercise discretion.
·         Must have the ability to work well under pressure, must have excellent professional demeanor, self-motivated, and flexible.
