Assistant Director, Financial Aid

Job Description

The Assistant Director, Financial Aid is responsible for assisting in the management and implementation of all aspects of the application, awarding, delivery and reconciliation of federal, state, private and institutional financial aid programs at Washtenaw Community College.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaboratively work with the Executive Director of Financial Aid to analyze and monitor mandated Federal and State regulations. Translate these regulations into policies and procedures for WCC’s Financial Aid Office.
  • Manage the administration of all Federal, State and Institutional financial aid programs to ensure efficient all aspects of reporting, reconciling and processing needed for all aid programs (federal grants, loans and work study, state grants and scholarships, institutional and external scholarships).
  • Manage, evaluate and monitor the day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid Office. Ensure that staff members have knowledge, ability, and time to complete assigned duties as well as provide excellent customer service.
  • Responsible for the timely completion of the Return to Title IV (R2T4) and the Satisfactory Academic Progress processes to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
  • Evaluate and assists in making decisions with the Executive Director of Financial Aid regarding high level, complex policies and procedures as they relate to professional judgment, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), Special Circumstances, and the awarding of discretionary aid.
  • Assist with updates to PPA/ECAR and FISAP submissions.
  • Assist with the annual system setup of our student information systems.
  • Represent the College and the Financial Aid Office by preparing and giving presentations to other college employees, high school counselors, high school students, parents, and other groups as needed.
  • Attend professional developmental conferences, seminars, webinars, and workshops to continually obtain knowledge on regulation changes applicable to the Financial Aid Office.
  • Hire, supervise, and oversee staff training.
  • Serves as the back-up to Executive Director of Financial Aid in their absence.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related area.
  • Minimum three (3) years progressive experience in Financial Aid.
  • Equivalent of two (2) years (minimum) supervisory experience.
  • Experience in delegating work, set clear direction and manage workflow
  • Experience working with Ellucian Banner or other student information system and ability to diagnose and communicate issues with IT to resolve issues.
  • Experience with financial aid federal software (FAA Access, ED connect, COD, NSLDS etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all Federal and State financial aid regulations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Possess a high degree of integrity, ethics, and a dedication to the mission of the College.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, both written and oral, to effectively communicate with diverse audiences.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed or additional hours during peak times as required.

Salary/Hourly Rate:
$65,777 - $72,355

 

Salary Comments:
Current Washtenaw Community College Employees Salary is determined by BOT Policy 5005***An Administrative Group employee whose job has been reclassified or who is promoted to a new position shall have his/her salary set at the new salary range minimum or at 10% above current salary, whichever is greater. Starting rate/salary is determined based on education and work history listed on application.
