Senior Director of Financial Services
San Diego Christian College (SDCC), as an academic and learning community, aims to prepare academically equipped, culturally and globally involved graduates with a biblical worldview and godly character to serve God. SDCC is a religious, non-profit organization (501c3) registered in the state of California. It is our mission to educate and inspire students through the truth of Scripture and the development of competencies that prepare graduates whose purpose is to impact the world.
The Financial Services (FS) office exists to lead and innovate within the College by providing the highest standard of service to facilitate students’ financial needs relating to their study. The office will provide a holistic, one-stop-shop that serves the financial needs of our traditional and non-traditional students.
The Senior Director of Financial Services is responsible for the oversight of both the financial aid and accounts aspects of the department. The Senior Director will provide leadership, supervision and direction for the delivery and coordination of federal, state and institutional student financial aid. The Senior Director also manages related audits, compliance reviews, account reconciliations, financial literacy outreach and works to ensure institutional compliance with relevant regulations. This position promotes a culture of data-driven management that informs the framework for assessment of students’ potential for success and leads to the improving retention, persistence and graduation rates. Ensure and deliver great customer service to SDCC students.
CLASSIFICATION AND LEVEL
Manager 3: Oversees through subordinate managers, a large complex departments or multiple business units with multiple functional disciplines/occupations OR manages a program regardless of size, that has critical impact on the organization. Has significant responsibility for formulating and administering policies and programs manages significant human, financial and physical resources, and functions with a very high degree of autonomy. Oversees through subordinate Manages the stewardship and accountability for department resources and the development of systems and procedures to protect organizational assets.
- Process Development and Management (40%)
- Collaborative interface with Admissions, Financial Services, Registrar and Accounting Departments
- Establishes procedures and guidelines regarding the effective and efficient distribution of financial aid among eligible applicants and enrolled students, with central focus meeting the institution’s enrollment and budget goals
- Manage and negotiate all subcontractor relationships. Including, but not limited to FA solutions and Regent contracts
- Refine institutional financial aid policy. Utilize historical data to inform and project effective use of financial aid to meet institutional goals. Works closely with senior administration in the setting of enrollment and net revenue goals
- Collaborate with Admissions, Accounting and Executive Leadership for scholarship awarding and fiscal impact
- Collaborate with campus offices and CFO to ensure the optimization to drive net revenue per student to meet new student enrollment goals and maximize retention of continuing students
- Coordinate the operations and compliance aspects, within regulations and guidelines, of financial assistance programs such as Federal Work Study, Federal Direct Loans, Federal Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, Cal Grants, Veterans Education Benefits and other available funds
- Research, analyze, develop and recommend departmental procedures to increase operational efficiency and to ensure regulatory compliance
- Follows current research on the impact of aid on student’s enrollment decisions, academic work, and life after college; anticipating and adjusting to future changes.
Reporting and Communication (25%)
- Coordinate the Financial Services Office’s response to program reviews and annual audits and submit audits to the U.S. Department of Education on time
- Coordinate enrollment reports with appropriate offices to the National Student Loan Clearinghouse (NSLC) and the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS)
- Complete the financial aid portion of IPEDS
- Create and update content for the SFS portion of the website
- Present financial aid information using brochures, literature and workshops directed towards students, parents and community groups
Personnel Oversight and Management (20%)
- Cultivate a collaborative work environment and team environment
- Ensures a high level of customer service through staff training, effective assessment and utilization of technology, process and policy development, and proactive communication
- Instruct and contribute to student satisfaction through delivery of quality customer service in all aspects of administration of financial aid and student accounts.
- Facilitate hiring process for all positions in the office including reviewing resumes, conducting interviews and training all new hires
- Advise Financial Services staff on higher level decisions and/or difficulties
- Directs weekly office meetings including preparation of agenda items
- Facilitate annual evaluation process for all staff
- Instruct, inspire and empower team members in their duties, responsibilities and customer interactions
Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) (15%)
- Manages F-1 student enrollments and related activities
- Understands implements and complies with company and government policies/regulations to manage F-1 student enrollments through SEVIS
- Trains staff members in SEVIS/DHS compliance
- Assists current students in solving problems related to their course registration, immigration status and/or cross-cultural adjustment
- Coordinates and oversees the creation and maintenance of student records (I-20s, OPT/CPT, and other enrollment documentation), both physical and electronic -Responsible for data entry of student information and production of Form I-20 immigration documents through the federally monitored SEVIS system
- Ensures all deadlines are met regarding reporting requirements to the government, such as registration no-shows, program completion, etc. Reviews, manages and updates student files to ensure compliance with federal law and upkeep of record keeping systems
- Responds effectively to inquiries from the Department of Homeland Security, SEVP, or other legal entities

- Masters degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Admissions and financial aid experience preferred
- In depth knowledge of financial regulations and laws as they apply to SDCC (federal, state, local)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
- Knowledge of financial services databases preferred (NSLC, NSLDS)
- Highly effective interpersonal skills; skilled in tactful diplomacy and conflict resolution.
- Outstanding organizational skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.

This position requires long periods of sitting, standing, walking, keying and hand/eye coordination for emailing and viewing data on a computer monitor.
