In carrying out its mission, ISA:
- Collects, analyzes, interprets, models, and reports information about NC State
- Manages institutional strategic planning, including implementation planning and metrics for the university strategic plan
- Provides leadership in governance and strategy with respect to the university’s academic and administrative data
- Administers, analyzes, supports, and oversees institutional surveys
- Supports, administers, and maintains applicable data structures, applications, and systems
Essential Job Duties
The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst designs, develops, documents, supports, maintains, and improves business intelligence (BI) tools, reports, and dashboards in support of ISA’s institutional reporting and analytics mission. The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst contributes to the planning and execution of BI strategies and initiatives and to the administration, maintenance, and improvement of BI infrastructure. As a senior analyst, the Senior Business Intelligence Analyst provides leadership and guidance to other analysts engaged in ISA’s BI projects and operations.
Specific duties of the position include but are not limited to:

- Design, develop, and maintain dashboards, self-service reports, and other BI solutions, with scope of responsibility including all phases of development and execution (determining requirements; data acquisition and cleaning; data processing, aggregation, and calculations; end-product design, interactivity, and build; documentation; testing and quality control; and rollout and stabilization)
- Serve as a senior developer/analyst for BI projects and operations, assisting, guiding, and reviewing work of other analysts
- Collaborate with other ISA staff, project teams, and campus partners to identify, understand, and document university information needs, translating those needs into project proposals and requirements for new BI solutions
- Support users of ISA’s data and analytical products by creating high quality user-friendly documentation, developing instructions or training materials, and being a resource and point of contact for end-users
- Continuously review and work to enhance and improve BI solutions
- Contribute to broader BI initiatives and to the operations and improvement of BI infrastructure
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in BI, data analytics, and data visualization
Minimum Education and Experience
- Master’s degree with 1-2 years of relevant experience; or Bachelor’s degree with 2-4 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience.
- Professional experience creating business intelligence solutions with data visualization tools (such as Tableau, Power BI, SAS VA)
Other Required Qualifications
- Experience with analytics-related programming languages (such as SQL, SAS, Python)
- Experience querying, transforming, aggregating, and organizing data to produce usable information
- Ability to understand and work with complex, cross-functional data
- Ability to design and build BI solutions based on general end-user needs
- Ability and commitment to create and maintain high quality documentation of BI solutions
- Ability to ensure quality and integrity of BI solutions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, process, organize, and present information with attention to detail, accuracy, and quality
- Strong communication skills and ability to understand the needs of the upper administration and the university community
- Ability to follow security procedures and work with secure/confidential data
- Ability to collaborate with others and to work in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience creating dashboards for an enterprise-level user-base
- Experience working with university data
- Advanced proficiency with SQL
- Experience with Tableau
- Experience with SAS
