Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President of Instruction and StudentLearning, and Associate Vice President of Instruction, Economic & Workforce Development, and in close cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction and Student Learning, the Dean of Business and Computer Science facilitates and promotes effective student learning in the Business and Computer Science area through integrated curriculum, the use of technology, alternative learning environments, and distance learning. The Dean supports in the Business and Computer Science (BCS) area a climate which promotes collegiality, innovation, understanding of the value of diversity in the community college, and improve services to students; cooperates with area staff and other managers to develop processes which are supportive of student success. The Dean also works with other colleges and sites in the District to review, implement, and coordinate the District and college Strategic Plans in coordination with college planning. In addition, the Dean promotes effective student learning in a multi-college environment, as well as providing administrative and fiscal oversight for the Cosumnes River College Child Development Center activities. The academic departments currently supervised by the Dean of Business and Computer Science are: Business, Business Technology, Computer Information Science, Accounting, Economics, Real Estate, Management, and Marketing.

Assignment Responsibilities

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing leadership in the Business and Computer Science area for innovative student learning, for the assurance of student success and for the continued evaluation and improvement of the area instructional programs.
  • Performing duties in the administration and supervision of the instructional areas.
  • Promoting, organizing, and overseeing assessment of student learning outcomes for systematic and continuous quality improvement.
  • Promoting staff development and supporting a climate which that fosters innovation and academic excellence.
  • Promoting a collegial atmosphere within Business and Family Science and throughout the college.
  • Developing instructor assignments and class schedules to meet student needs.
  • Assuming leadership and responsibility for faculty and staff evaluation and development in the instructional areas.
  • Assuming leadership and responsibility for curriculum development and evaluation in the instructional areas.
  • Developing area budget recommendations and facilities utilization plans.
  • Administering day, extended day, weekend, and summer offerings in the instructional area.
  • Coordinating the activities of the faculty and staff in the instructional areas.
  • Supporting and facilitating the Student Success Teams in the BCS area.
  • Supporting equity and cultural competency.
  • Supporting and participating in the college accreditation process.
  • Working with the District staff in all areas of responsibility.
  • Serving as a member of the Cosumnes River College management staff to assist in coordinating all campus activities.
  • Attending and serving on assigned college and District committees.
  • Assisting in the articulation of area programs with other institutions and in the development of partnerships with external agencies.
  • Employing techniques such as interest-based conflict resolution and other appropriate strategies to resolve disputes and enhance communication and cooperation among the college and District members.
  • Supporting and facilitating advisory committees of the career and technical education programs in the Business and Computer Science area.
  • Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, when necessary.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Have a master’s degree from an accredited institution. All degrees must be from an accredited institution completed by June 30, 2023.
  2. Have one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s administrative assignment.
  3. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
