Posting Summary
Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Business Assistant II. Reporting to NJSBDC State Director, this position is responsible for all federal, state, and local grant narrative and programmatic reporting.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following.
  • Provide recommendations on programmatic guidance to the NJSBDC network (12 Regional Directors)
  • Advise on performance reviews, partner management, State Advisory Board meeting/minutes, strategic plan updates
  • Ensure CenterIC (customized database system) data is entered correctly into the system
  • Work with consultants that provide data integrity ensuring that the policy and procedure manuals stay up to date, relevant, and timely
  • Assist the state director on the national accreditation review process in writing the self study every 4 years

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience and expertise in grant writing, applications processes, and oversight of programmatic federal, state, local reporting requirements
  • Professional writing, business writing, technical writing
  • Experience in writing, grants, extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, experience with CenterIC Management Information System
  • Extensive knowledge of SBDC programs and operations
  • Understands principles, methods, and tools for the coordinated management of a program with oversight of multiple projects, and related activities
  • Possesses knowledge of the strategies, techniques, and processes used to plan, develop, and control project schedule and track project deliverables
  • Possesses knowledge of the concepts, practices, and techniques used to identify and engage individuals and groups connected to a work effort
  • Understands business operations, including finance, operating control systems, human resource management, marketing, public relations
  • Open to change and new information; adapts behavior or work methods in response to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles; effectively deals with ambiguity

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Must be willing to travel in state and out of state, lift boxes up to 25lbs, and network statewide

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals , if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply. Prospective employees should speak with their hiring manager to determine which policies apply to the role or position for which they are applying. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain a medical or religious exemption from the University will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
