Responsibilities*

The Patient Business Associate plays an important role at the School of Dentistry.  Educating patients and student providers on insurance coverage, you will use your knowledge of insurance to provide options to patients.  Attention to detail, customer service skills and flexibility are key attributes.  In addition, you will serve as a subject matter expert within the Dental Business Office, with understanding of maximum insurance utilization.

  • You will check patients in and out including updating demographics, verifying insurance, adding policies to charts, and reviewing treatment plans. 
  • You will research insurance coverage and benefits via payer websites or direct contact with insurance companies.
  • You will prepare the patient liability estimate using procedure code, diagnosis, payer fee schedule and benefit information obtained from payer research.
  • You will educate patients regarding insurance benefits and patient liability for services including pursuing other alternative financial arrangements. 
  • You will research past due accounts receivable for past due balances and collect and post both prepayments and post-service payments.
  • You will schedule patients.
  • You will work on referral coordination.
  • You will be the first point of contact for the incoming phone line.
  • You will create and review the daily cashier’s report.

Required Qualifications*

  • 3+ years experience in a dental or medical office setting.
  • Experience with a computerized patient management system.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including proficient use of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • High attention to detail, ability to work independently and meet deadlines are necessary
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines and working effectively with frequent interruptions in a very busy environment
  • Experience with outstanding interpersonal/communication skills to handle highly confidential information and to communicate with diverse populations including staff, faculty, students and patients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team.  
  • Experience with maintaining regular attendance to complete the responsibilities of the position.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience with using Mi Dent/Axium software

This position is located at the School of Dentistry at 1011 N University Ave.
