Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Finance Business Analyst for the Financial Information Systems (FIS) unit within the University Controller’s Office. This position reports to the Senior Manager of FIS Reporting and Analytics and is responsible for serving as a liaison between the Reporting group within the FIS team and the campuses/units related to report development and ongoing report maintenance. As a subject matter expert in Rutgers finance/accounting business processes, the Finance Business Analyst will work closely with various campuses, as well as the central and business units to assess and document complex financial reporting requirements, assist with prioritization, develop and work with developers and other teams to create/enhance reports, coordinate with end users in testing, user acceptance, and deployment of developed reports. The Finance Business Analyst will exemplify superior understanding of financial reports, reporting tools, such as Tableau, as well as proficiency in other reporting tools (e.g., Oracle), databases, etc. This position will coordinate and test data changes related to the finance data warehouse tables and views.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Collaborates with users and management teams from campuses, central units and other units to gather and document business requirements for report development.
  • Supports the University Controller’s Office and the university’s financial leadership in the evaluation of business requirements that affect financial reporting.
  • Analyzes business needs by working with business owners to determine whether existing processes and reports are in place, or if new reporting and analytics solutions need to be designed and developed.
  • Assists with developing and implementing reporting and analytic solutions using Oracle Reporting Tools and Tableau for financial reporting and decision making.
  • Works with central accounting staff and university-wide end-users and committees, assists with developing solutions to various business needs related to financial reporting and analytics.
  • Creates technical/functional requirements and specification documents.
  • Creates/modifies system reports as needed using Tableau and Oracle financial reporting tools.
  • Develops test plans, test cases, and test scripts, performs initial (unit and integration) tests of the developed reports and coordinates with end-users and management to perform user acceptance tests (UAT).
  • Provides timely and professional guidance and direction to end users with a high level of quality assurance.
  • Works with the help desk team and system support team to ensure that end users receive customer service on a timely basis.
  • Resolves complex customer-service issues that require higher-level support.
  • Communicates with trainers and end users regarding new reports, enhancements and report issues.
  • Defines and develops training needs related to financial reports and supporting systems.
  • Supports university-wide communication and training initiatives related to financial reporting; and performs other related duties assigned.
  • Assist with and support the monthly Fringe benefits process.
  • Collaborates with OIT on the design and deployment of the finance data warehouse. This involves gathering business requirements, writing functional specifications and writing custom SQL. Responsibilities include data cleansing and data validation that supports data visualizations and reporting from the data warehouse. Creates and/ or validates data warehouse tables, views and data sources.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years related experience in Accounting/Finance/Business.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Accounting and related business processes; strong understanding of financial reporting and related areas.
  • Deep understanding of financial systems and reporting tools; ability to understand complex, integrated, state-of-the-art and legacy computer systems.
  • Deep knowledge of business analysis, requirements gathering, and documentation using industry best practices.
  • Skilled in planning, organization and project management activities.
  • Team player with exceptional interpersonal skills and a desire to provide superior customer service to end users.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as negotiation skills.
  • Working knowledge of SQL.
  • Proficient in MS Office including Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.
  • Proficient in using Tableau and MS Access.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or Technology desired.
  • Preferred experience using Oracle Fusion ERP and the following reporting tools: Financial Reporting Studio, BI Publisher and Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence (OTBI).
  • Experience using Excel add in Smart View for ad hoc reporting from a connection to the ERP database.
  • Experience with Oracle SQL coding.
