Dana-Farber is seeking an inaugural Vice President for Business and Technology Transformation,  who will serve as the executive director and principal client executive for DFCI's ERP project over the next few years, with an ongoing role after that as a strategist, trusted advisor and expert on administrative innovation, infrastructure, and investment.

The overall objective of the VP is to strengthen and modernize DFCI’s administrative services to advance its missions of patient care and research, and to better serve its growing, diverse workforce of approximately 12,000 with a range of abilities.  The VP will report to DFCI’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (EVP/COO) and will be accountable to the EVP/COO and the project’s Executive Sponsors for the overall progress and success of the project.  The VP will serve as the primary client executive representing Dana-Farber’s interests and objectives, and managing relationships and services provided by the software provider, the implementation partner, and Dana-Farber Information Systems.

The VP will oversee the work of DFCI staff on the project as they develop and implement cross functional system-based accessible solutions, prepare DFCI for new systems and processes, and manage post-implementation stabilization and adoption. The VP will ensure coordination and collaboration throughout the project, and proper consideration/integration of perspectives from other administrative functions, research, and clinical operations.

Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.

This position will require significant work to be performed in-person, onsite on our Boston campus in the Longwood Medical Area and Brookline. Some work may be performed remotely in a state where DFCI operates (Massachussettes, Maine, New Hamphire, Vermont, Rhode Island and Connecticut).

Responsibilities

  1. The VP will ensure that each of the DFCI teams works cross-functionally and in partnership with the implementation partner and the software provider on:
  • business needs and requirements definition.
  • system and process solution design and configuration.
  • data definitions, clean-up, and conversion.
  • development of operational and management reporting needed on Day 1.
  • integrations with systems outside of the project’s scope.
  • testing, training, documentation.
  • user and employee support platforms, processes, and content.
  • granting and maintaining systems access.
  • system administration and configuration.
  • go-live readiness and deployment.
  • an ITSM framework, platform and assigned staffing to provide user support at multiple tiers once live.
  • on-going system administration and configuration.

      2. “Stand up” and run an effective Project Management Office that spans across DFCI and participating partners and providers.

  • With these groups, devise and communicate a master project plan that is realistic, clear, adequately scoped and estimated, and that recognizes dependencies, sequencing, and timing. Closely monitor the project plan and budget. Regularly communicate the plan and periodic status to project participants and stakeholders.
  • Drive agreement on the project management methodology, practices and platforms that will be used to keep the project on-track. Ensure there are strong practices to gather and communicate status, remove obstacles, and accelerate work on the critical path. Drive the resolution of problems and take responsibility for decision-making (with input as needed from the EVP/COO and executive sponsors) about tradeoffs that are in the best, long-term interests of DFCI.

     3.  Build, develop and lead a talented, diverse team with a healthy culture that is psychologically safe, highly engaged, and productive. Develop and grow the DFCI team members through on-the-job experience, relationships, and formal learning.

     4. Set up structures and ensure consistent practices to appropriately engage and inform DFCI leadership, business owners and functional stakeholders, and end user groups.
