Job Description

The Marilyn Davies College of Business at the University of Houston-Downtown (MDCOB – UHD) seeks candidates for a Lecturer (masters level) position in the Department of Accounting & International Business This is a full-time, 36-week, non-tenure line, limited-term, one-year appointment with excellent potential for re-appointment. UHD is accredited by Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). MDCOB – UHD enrolls approximately 2,500 undergraduate and more than 1,100 graduate students and employs 18 full-time accounting faculty members. The home campus for this position is the Downtown Houston campus but may comprise teaching assignments on UHD’s Northeast and Northwest campuses.

Lecturers in this position will teach courses each semester using traditional, hybrid, and online delivery methods. Teaching assignments will include introductory courses in Accounting and potentially upper-level undergraduate and graduate accounting courses. Teaching assignments may require teaching courses scheduled during the daytime, evening, and weekend hours; in face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats. Lecturers in this position will engage in activities to stay current in the discipline; participate in the course, curriculum, and program development; advise students and provide career guidance; participate in campus, university, and community service activities; engage in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Candidate must demonstrate evidence of, or potential for, high-quality teaching. The position is a full-time 9-month, non-tenure-track appointment which requires teaching undergraduate and graduate accounting courses.

Qualifications
 
  • Minimum of an MBA or other business-related master's degree from an AACSB accredited institution is required to be considered for the rank of Lecturer.
  • Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is required.
  • Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage.
  • All areas in accounting are considered.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates are preferred that demonstrate commitment to pedagogical best practice initiatives and instructional excellence in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate accounting courses in face-to-face, hybrid, fully online, and flipped classroom delivery models.
  • Previous experience in teaching graduate courses or teaching in the areas of internal audit, audit, and data analytics are preferable qualifications.
  • Candidates with demonstrated willingness to participate in business, industry, and student activities are preferred.
  • Candidates who have a commitment to working with a diverse student body are preferred.
