Job Description

In addition, the Executive Director collaborates with the Dean in directing the part of the Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship job responsible for consulting with start-ups. The Executive Director is the top economic development resource at UNCP and represents UNCP and the HUB to outside groups with a similar mission.”

The primary duty of the position is to lead the organization to fulfill the mission of consulting with start-ups including fostering partnerships throughout the state, developing funding sources for start-ups and supporting The University of North Carolina at Pembroke (“UNCP”) student entrepreneurship programs.

Additionally, the Executive Director is responsible for:

The Executive Director is responsible for finding, developing, and fostering relationships throughout North Carolina including Federal Agencies such as the EDA that covers the area as a means of supporting start-ups in Pembroke and Robeson County.

The Executive Director needs to understand the distressed nature of the region, gain funding support, develop private and public partnerships, and work with economic development directors. Examples include, NC IDEA, KBR, EDA, USBA, Kenan Foundation, and CDFI.

Coordinate and respond to all inquiry requests and requests for assistance and deploy the HUB and UNCP resources in support of the requests.

Support student entrepreneurial efforts and student consultants.

Obtain involvement of practicing entrepreneurs and business people. Interact with local constituencies (Lumbee Tribe, Small Business Technology Development Center, state and local economic and workforce development agencies, etc.)

Provide oversight and administer business plan competitions, host entrepreneurial summits and other appropriate training and meeting opportunities.
Develop the HUB marketing plan and communication strategy including oversight and updates to the entrepreneurship program website.

Manage the HUB operating budget and supervise staff members to ensure that the skills, experience, and resources are available to help achieve the mission of the HUB.
Work closely with the Thomas Family Center Endowed Chair and Executive in Residence, Entrepreneurship, Dean of the School of Business, faculty, and economic and community development leaders in the region to establish leadership training and entrepreneurial programs.

Additional Qualifications:

The Executive Director will be thoroughly committed to the HUB’s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, consulting, and relationship management experience.

Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:
Demonstrated proficiency in establishing and maintaining personal and HUB contacts and relationships with leaders in the community.
Demonstrated ability and/or demonstrated propensity to serve as a link between the HUB and other entities within the University.
Demonstrated ability and/or demonstrated propensity to develop and implement a plan to engage the HUB and faculty in the community.

Demonstrated ability and/or demonstrated propensity in recruiting entrepreneurship students and in identifying internship and consulting opportunities for entrepreneurship students.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.

Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning.

Integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
The successful candidate (a) must be a team player and (b) must be receptive and sensitive to the needs of diverse constituents including the student population, faculty members, and community members; and © must demonstrate the ability to serve as a link between
the HUB and the business community.

This position is designated as Mandatory Personnel: Employees whose presence has been determined to be mandatory to University operations during certain types of adverse weather or emergency events.

Management Preference
Experience as an entrepreneur is highly desirable.
Consulting experience and teaching experience is helpful.
